Eriben “Eddie” Reyes
Born July 23rd 1973 in Mexico to a family of 7 siblings. They all Immigrated to Texas, in 1978 when he was 5 y/o. There he would grow up in the very rough 5th Ward of Houston TX, where he would eventually fall in love with Boxing at the youth center built by George Foreman.Eddie joined the United States Marine Corps in 1993 and obtained his Citizenship while he served in the Marines until 1997.
In 1998, Eddie was sworn in as a San Diego County Deputy Sheriff and served with them until 2001 when he lateraled to the Oceanside Police Department that same year.
Here Eddie would spend his next 22 years serving the citizens of Oceanside. Eddie loved the United States or as he called it “‘Merica” and spent his life serving others while in a uniform.
He was the biggest Patriot and truly Loved the Nation that provided him with the opportunity to be successful.
As a single father Eddie raised two young boys, Erik and Kristopher. Both young adults now they each continue his legacy and serve in the United States Marine Corps (Kris) and United States Space Force (Erik, after serving 4 years prior in the US Navy). Eddie also helped raise a daughter to him that he always wanted, Angelina Rose. She is set to enlist in the United States Air force in 2025.Eddie was diagnosed with ALS in 2023 after an 18 month long struggle to discovering what was ailing him. He was still actively working as a Field Training Officer on nightwatch for OPD right up until he got the bad news. He retired on his 50th Birthday after 22 years of faithful service.
While at OPD Eddie served as a School Resource Officer and used that platform to help kids in bad situations see the light of good, the same one he saw growing up in a rough neighborhood in Houston, TX. As defensive tactics instructor Eddie used his EXCELLENT Boxing and fighting skills to train hundreds of Officers to be safer and more equipped to do the demanding job.
He was also Sniper on the SWAT team and was an excellent marksman. Eddie was truly loved by all and was friends with everyone. His infectious and goofy smile could be seen a mile away!
Eddie was proud to be a Veteran and American Patriot. Eddie loved to watch UFC fights and also loved to party and BBQ. He could often be found on the dance floor busting a move!Always a prankster He loved to joke around and could always make you laugh.
